About Us

In 2004, the Chile Mojo store was born of necessity.  A result of Joel Adams and Morgen Britt’s passion for Mexican cuisine and of all things Chile Pepper.  Morgen, born and raised in Adelaide, met Joel while living in Seattle.  The Chile Mojo idea was formed during this time as they knew the difficulty of finding essential Mexican ingredients in Australia.  Joel and Morgen love these foods and know the Australian public does too.  They wanted to be able to cook great Mexican meals at home, and decided to share what they found.

Joel hails from Colorado where Mexican food is a part of the staple diet.  Cooking is innate for Joel.  He grew up preparing food at home and helping out at his Mom’s restaurant.  His cooking career has spanned a number of styles and cuisines, but it is the often complex, rich and varied ingredients in Mexican cooking that he keeps coming back to.  Joel has created a number of easy to use Spice Blends, all with delicious recipes and is happy to share his cooking knowledge with Chile Mojo’s customers.

Morgen has travelled extensively through Mexico, following the footsteps of her parents who both completed university in Mexico City.  In addition to enjoying the wonderful food, she fell in love with the glorious crafts and textiles throughout regional Mexico.  Chile Mojo offers beautiful hand-crafted items from colourful ceramic Day of the Dead calaveras (skulls), vibrant placemats, table runners and blankets to gorgeous mirrors and unique folk art pieces.

The background to all these wonderful Mexican foods and gifts is of course, The Wall of Flame.  Hundreds of bottles of hot sauce, BBQ sauce, wing sauce and more, vie for your attention when you walk into the store.  Have fun browsing our online store, but if you’re in town, there’s nothing quite like the multi-sensory experience of exploring the store first hand.

After signing the lease on Cinco de Mayo (5th of May), Chile Mojo opened it's doors on October 1st 2004, on The Parade in Norwood.  Five years later, 381 Magill Road, St Morris was home.  On our 10th birthday, October 1st 2014 we opened the doors to our current home at 395 Magill Road.  Once again, with more space, more parking and much much more in store.

Bienvenidos a Chile Mojo.
