Seeds - Corn Striped Japonica

A thoroughly gorgeous heirloom flint corn which is a true joy to grow.  Plants have variegated leaves with pink, white, green and yellow strpes, tassels and kernels are deep burgundy red.

Grind for maize flour or use as popcorn.

Full sun and adequate spacing are important for this variety as the colour develops better when plants are widely spaced.  Growing conditions can affect plant and cob colour.  Ensure any other corn varieties are kept 50-100 metres away to avoid cross-pollination.

This is a somewhat smaller stature plant, growing 5-6’ high. For good pollination and full ears, plant 30cm apart in blocks of 3-6 rows instead of one long row. A well-drained fertile soil with plenty of water will give beest results.

At the end of the season, after the ears completely dry on the stalk, harvest and allow them to dry in a shaded dry spot. Remove the kernels from the cobs and continue to dry before grinding for flour or store them in an airtight container for burgundy-accented popcorn all year long!

85-100 days.

Seed count varies ranging from 20-30 seeds per pack depending on supplier - please call ahead for confirmation.

Please note: We cannot send this item to WA or Tasmania.
