This strain was the Guinness World Records (2011) for the hottest chilli in the World at just over 1.4million SHU's. That's 300,000 SHU's hotter than the previous record holder from India - Bhut Jolokia (Ghost Chilli).
It is derived from the Trinidad scorpion, which is indigenous to Trinidad and Tobago. It was named by The Hippy Seed Company and The Chilli Factory who propagated the pepper's seeds which they obtained from Butch Taylor, the owner of Zydeco Farms in Woodville/Crosby, Mississippi. Butch T grew out this strain, hence the name Trinidad Scorpion Butch T. The "scorpion" peppers are referred to as such because the pointed end of the pepper is said to resemble a scorpion's stinger.
Despite no longer holding the top gong, it is still widely sought after by extreme eaters for its mega-heat, fruity flavor, and wicked looks.
Please note not all pods will have the scorpion stinger tail.
Seed count varies ranging from 10-20 seeds per pack depending on supplier - please call ahead for confirmation.
